February 23rd 2010 Meeting Review
February 23, Neighborhood Watch - “Quality of life” meeting review. The Asian Longhorn beetle infestation have been found on the properties abutting the I-190 Ararat Street exit ramp area and as close as Drummond Ave and Lansing Street areas. The truth is that our area on top of the hill has not been fully assessed as of yet and it is unknown of the impact upon the Winter Heights community, BUT the bugs are close. Time will tell. There is a free seminar about identifying the beetle the obvious tree damage that it creates and more at the First Baptist Church, located at the intersection of Park and Salisbury Streets, on Wednesday February 23rd at 1 p.m. The problem is that it is likely that this meeting will have passed before anyone has an opportunity to read this posting, so much for timing!
City Councilman “Joff Smith” attended this evenings meeting and was available for general questions. We are fortunate to have this resource. Overall attendance was actually low so Gerry O’Connor and your’s truly District 1 Chair; “Stephen Paulin” opted to cancel the March 23rd meeting and monitor interest levels for future scheduling. The April 27th meeting is on line as scheduled, we hope to see our neighbors there.
Reminder: We would like our neighbors input for compelling and interesting topics for upcoming meetings. Please feel free to make suggestions for future topics. Let us know what your concerns are, what you would like to know about this is not about crime watch, it is about your “quality of life in Worcester” Please contact us! You may make topic suggestions by e-mail here Please take advantage of this resource, Thanks!
Respectfully,
Stephen D. Paulin Sr, Chair

January 26th 2010 Meeting Review
Our Neighborhood Crime watch meetings will be known if the future as “Neighborhood Quality of Life” meetings. We would like our neighbors input for compelling and interesting topics for upcoming meetings. Please attend the next meeting, join the discussion and make suggestions for future topics.
Officer Jerry O’Connor was accompanied by Lieutenant Stan Roy at this meeting. I am sorry to report that NO residents from the winter heights community attended the last meeting, however happenings from our community were discussed including our pending election of new trustees and the nuisance noise created by the generator installed to operate the cellular transmitters on the water tower, as well as a suggestion to appeal to our city councilor Joff Smith.
Please attend future meetings and take advantage of the provisions our tax dollars have presented. Meet your neighbors, get your questions answered and invest in your homestead.
I personally have never attended a “bad” meeting, I invite and welcome you all February 23, 2010. Hope to see you at St. George’s rectory. 40 brattle St, 6 PM.
We hope to see you at the next meeting!
Respectfully,
Stephen D. Paulin, Sr

December 22nd Meeting Review
Some of the attendees from the “Winter Heights” community reported uncomfortable encounters with a teenage boy who regularly walks within our subdivision. These happenings have involved this young man entering peoples garages uninvited then knocking on doors asking to take or borrow belongings. If anyone in the area has had similar experiences or information as to the identity of this young man please contact Officer Jerry O’Connor Community Impact Unit 508-799-8682. Officer Jerry would like to determine the latitude of the situation, determine where this person resides and perhaps speak with his parents.
The meeting dialogue also covered alarm system components including driveway sensors, back yard and interior motion devices, wired “traps” sliding door mechanisms and other security devices. All very good information.
We hope to see you at the next meeting!
Respectfully,
Stephen D. Paulin, Sr

Meeting Notes November 24th 2009
Although few Winter Heights residents were in attendance, we were pleased to have neighbors attend the November Crime Watch meeting from surrounding district one neighborhoods. These were folks that were notified by the St. Georges weekly bulletin. Officer Gerry O’Connor noted that house break-ins were down in our area however car break-ins were notably increased in the Ararat / Indian Hill neighborhoods, also there were reports of car breaks occurring at the YMCA parking lot. Keep your valuables out of sight.
The Crime Watch program is a valuable resource to the residents of Worcester. It offers more than just details of crime activity and awareness. Many times the conversation adjusts to DPW issues, traffic, parking, snow removal and more. These meetings are informative and can be fun!
We look forward to your future attendance please see the upcoming schedule.
Respectfully,
Stephen D. Paulin, Sr

Meeting Notes October 27th 2009
No crimes to report in the WinterHeights neighborhood. There was a signifcant amount of cars that were broken into in the neighborhood surrounding the church.
I was the only resident from WinterHeights at the meeting along with Officer O'Connor. I had put a notice in the church bulletin and luckily 5 parishioners came.
I will be ending my commitment to being the Crime Watch point person at the end of the year and Stephen Paulin will take over.
I did request that another announcement be placed in the St. George Church Bulletin for the next meeting which is scheduled for November 24th.
The last meeting of the year is scheduled for December 22nd and I am thinking that it may get cancelled due to the holidays. (very busy week for most)
A new location for these meeting may need to be found as the church allowed for me to "reserve" the space as a parishioner and would be responsible for the Hall.
Thank you,
Kara Stein

Meeting Notes May 26th 2009
Neighborhood Crime Watch Meeting Tuesday May 26th, 2009, as reviewed by resident Stephen Paulin; 4 Snowy Owl Lane: Officer Jerry O’Connor was available as always to support, advise and benefit our Winter Heights community.
Our neighborhood has not experienced any criminal activities in the last several months so all has been quiet. Was it the weather, is it over, or will it start again? One never knows, right?
In any event the city of Worcester has given us a great resource by making available officer O’Connor to consult with us about the “ins and outs" of residing in our community.
Tonight’s meeting actually included suggestions on how our homeowners association could develop more power and governing policies. We urge you to attend future community “crime watch” meetings as they are more about community than crime. |
