The following are best practices to keep your home secure:
- Keep lights on surrounding your property, ex: timers to go on a night, keep back deck lights on install motion detection lights outside.
Tell a neighbor if you are going out of town for an extended period of time.
Install timers to go on inside your house in different rooms at different times so it appears that someone is in the house.
Invest in an alarm/home security system for your home. Wireless systems available.
Install Deadbolt locks - on all exterior doors.
Document your valuables. Write down serial numbers to electronic equipment, ex. computers, televisions, camera's, gaming equipment and photograph items as well and keep in a safe place.
All Siding Glass Doors should have an additional lock on it or pin on it. These locks can be purchased at home improvement stores and make entry into your home very difficult. Without the additional lock, your sliding door can easily be lifted up and entry made into your home.
Call the WPD if you see something suspicious. You are not bothering them.
They want us to call!! Take down license plate numbers.
